Are you looking for information in your field or thinking of a career move into a new sector? We are very pleased to announce that the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) will be exhibiting at Jobs Expo Galway on 24th February at the Galmont Hotel & Spa (formerly the Radisson Blu).

Workplace Relations is an independent, statutory body. On 1st October 2015 WRC were set up under the Workplace Relations Act 2015 (No. 16 of 2015). Their purpose is to educate and provide helpful information on industrial relations as well as rights and obligations under Irish employment and equality legislation.

WRC assumes the roles and functions previously carried out by:

Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) responsibilities

First and foremost, WRC is an advocate for the refinement and perpetuation of excellent workplace relations. The organisation also supports and encourages compliance with relevant enactments.

Additionally, the commission offers guidance in relation to compliance with codes of practice approved under Section 20 of the Workplace Relations Act 2015.

They also carry out reviews and follow up on workplace relations improvements. Furthermore, they conduct or commission research into matters pertaining to workplace relations.

The research results found by WRC,in addition to advice and information, are shared with joint labour committees and joint industrial councils. Furthermore, they advise and appraise the Minister in relation to the application of, and compliance with, relevant enactments. They also provide information to members of the public in relation to employment.

Workplace Relations principal services include the inspection of employment rights compliance, the provision of information, the processing of employment agency and protection of young persons (employment) licences as well as the provision of mediation, conciliation, facilitation and advisory services.

The Commission has a board composed of a chairperson and eight regular members appointed by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation.

Jobs Expo, Ireland’s largest careers event, returns to Galway this February and is set to be bigger than ever with thousands of jobs on offer from local, national and global employers recruiting at the event.

Up to 40 leading employers and educators as well as professional development experts are to take part in Jobs Expo Galway on Saturday 24th February at the Galmont Hotel & Spa (formerly the Radisson Blu Hotel). The event runs from 10am to 4pm and also offersfree talks and seminars along with free career advice. The event is free-of-charge to attend for those who register on Jobsexpo.ie.

Medtech, STEM and Tourism

“Galway is an international medtech hub and the city has a thriving STEM sector. In addition, tourism has long been an important economic area. As a result, there is demand for skilled candidates in Galway city and the surrounding areas,” says Jobs Expo's Bronagh Cotter. “February’s Jobs Expo will have a great mix of local and international companies eager to meet skilled professionals. This includes multinationals such as Shire, MAPFRE and Shopify, plus Irish success stories like LotusWorks and the award winning Ashford Castle.”

Jobs Expo Galway will be divided into five separate zones to make it easier for attendants to find the companies and jobs that interest them the most. The dedicated areas include:

Go Global – career opportunities overseas

The Campus – education, training and upskilling opportunities

The bi-annual event will also include free career advice as well as a series of industry seminars. The Career Clinic will offer free career coaching from a team of qualified career counsellors while the Agenda Stage will offer free, topical talks by industry insiders.

Additionally, the company established a Chinese representative office in 2013. As a result, the company built stronger relationships with its foreign and domestic customer base in Asia.

In 2014, the company acquired Precision Wire Components, a specialist in medical wire and coil. Effectively, it became the largest metals fabricator for minimally invasive delivery and access devices. It also added facilities in Costa Rica and Oregon to its global footprint.

Today Creganna Medical's network expands throughout four continents. Ireland is the base for the company's headquarters, where it operates as a private limited company.

A (very) brief history of Ashford Castle
 
The 800 year old castle was built in thirteenth century by the Anglo-Norman de Burgo family. The history and evolution of Ashford Castle is vast and detailed. In 1852, the Guinness family acquired the castle. The new owners spread the building and the estate over the landscape as well as planted thousands of trees. The castle opened as a hotel in 1939 after Noel Huggard bought the premises. In 1965, a group of Irish-American investors bought the hotel. Finally, in 2013 Red Carnation Hotels bought Ashford Castle and began serious renovations on the property. The iconic hotel reopened in April 2015 after a two-year renovation and restoration programme.
