We’re excited to announce that FIT will be returning to exhibit at Jobs Expo Cork. The organisation will be offering attendees information and guidance about IT apprenticeship programmes. Meet their team on the 17th of November at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
The new National Apprenticeship Programme is ICT Associate Professional. It’s suitable for all tech enthusiasts wishing to pursue a career in Ireland’s IT sector. Over 12,000 jobs are currently available in tech – as highlighted by the recent FIT ICT Skills Audit. 75% of these roles can be facilitated through tech apprenticeship programmes. These programmes provide immediate employment opportunities for job seekers and students.
Furthermore, these companies are keen to recruit smart people with smart skills. Also, this new Tech Apprenticeship will enable participants to ‘earn while they learn’. Participating companies sponsor participants from day one and throughout the programme.
Giving new meaning to the concept of ‘hire education!’ this Apprenticeship programme adopts a learning by doing format of ICT skills development, which has been championed by industry and is now incorporated as an integrated component of statutory provision. Over a two year period the programme combines college-based learning with on-the-job application. This in turn culminates in the attainment of the ICT Associate Professional Apprenticeship Award.
There’s big demand for People with tech skills in the IT sector and other industries that now need IT skills. This is a trend that’s anticipated to grow. It will continue as companies utilise technologies to manage their activities, market their products, communicate with their customers and increase productivity.
Emerging Internet of Things (IoT) technologies are creating new industrial sectors. Driverless cars, delivery by drones and further prospects result in the creation of new roles. These new roles demand skill sets and career paths across all sectors of the economy. And this’s expected to grow in the coming years. FIT was recently appointed Coordinating Provider by the national Apprenticeship Council. Their duty is to deliver two technology apprenticeships at Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
Built on a proto-type that was ‘road-tested’ with over 150 leading technology companies sponsoring 249 successful participants, the ICT Associate Professional Apprenticeship programme commencing in early 2018 facilitates two tracks of technology training nationwide:

Meet BCS Sales Recruitment at Jobs Expo Cork next month. The event organisers will be exhibiting and talking to all candidates throughout the day.
BCS are the sponsors and organisers of the Jobs Expo. Since 2012, they have run highly successful careers events in Cork, Dublin, and Galway twice a year. They are also the team behind Virtual Expos Ireland. BCS are returning to Cork for autumn 2018.
“One of the major benefits of Jobs Expo is that it allows employees and employers to meet and discuss career opportunities in a relatively informal setting,” says Bronagh Cotter of BCS. “Attendees can meet a variety of employers, and employers can conduct several initial interviews with potential employees. Furthermore, for recruitment firms like BCS, Jobs Expo is a chance to connect with candidates and companies.”
On the day, BCS Sales Recruitment team can offer guidance to jobseekers on a variety of topics such as interview techniques and professional growth. Their jobseeker services are there to avail of for anybody on the lookout for employment.
“Many jobseekers are unsure how to sell themselves to employers. Even if they have all the necessary skills and experience, they can have trouble communicating that. Some candidates underestimate the importance of soft skills, and fail to highlight these,” she contends.
Successful recruitment should create a mutually beneficial relationship between candidates and companies, says Bronagh.
“We aim to find the best fit for both employees and employers. Companies want more than just an employee with skills and experience. They want staff who fit into their company’s culture. It is much the same for jobseekers, particularly if they have in-demand skills. Of course, salary is a consideration, but it is not the only one. Depending on their circumstances, their priority could be the potential for promotion, the chance to upskill, travel opportunities or work-life balance,” she explains.
“Therefore, we match a candidate’s goals and expectations with the right company. It is our firm belief that it is not a job well done unless both the candidate and company benefit. We spend so much of our lives are at work. That means that finding the right fit is crucial.”
