About Cork Kerry Community Healthcare

Cork Kerry Community Healthcare is the part of the HSE which provides services in the community across Cork and Kerry.

A considerable part of our workforce of more than 8,000 people are health care support assistants, or home helps as they used to be known.

Staff and managers from the Home Support Service will be available at the Jobs Expo to explain what health care support assistants (home helps) do, and the many advantages of working with the HSE.

Becoming a health care support assistant is a rewarding and valuable career for those who wish to make a difference in their communities while working as part of a team.  Applicants must have a minimum of a Fetac Level 5 qualification.

Health care support assistants with the HSE receive all the benefits of being a public sector employee, including competitive pay,  pension rights and a salary scale. They receive paid holidays and other leave, paid travel time and paid mileage.

They also have access to free continuous training and development opportunities  - for example training in dementia awareness, and infection prevention and control.

New recruits are initially offered at least 10 hours per week, increasing up to 39 hours per week.

Cork Kerry Community Healthcare employs about 2,000 health care support assistants across the region, and their work makes a difference every single day. They help people to remain living in their homes and communities and to maintain their independence. It’s an important and rewarding role which is of huge importance to the people they work with, their families and their communities.

Health care support assistants help others to carry out the usual activities of day-to-day life, and they may also support family members to care for loved ones at home. Working as part of a team, health care support assistants are a vital part of a professional service.

Cork Kerry Community Healthcare’s vision is a healthier Cork and Kerry with an accessible, responsive, connected and high quality service valued by all, and our values are Integrity, Learning, Partnership and Respect.
