Ashford Castle lays across 350 acres of exquisite landscape and overlooks Lough Corrib. The hotel exceeds in excellence. Consequently, Ashford Castle remains one of the most refined hotels in Europe and was recently voted the “Best Hotel in the World.”
 
A (very) brief history of Ashford Castle
 
The 800 year old castle was built in thirteenth century by the Anglo-Norman de Burgo family. The history and evolution of Ashford Castle is vast and detailed. In 1852, the Guinness family acquired the castle. The new owners spread the building and the estate over the landscape as well as planted thousands of trees. The castle opened as a hotel in 1939 after Noel Huggard bought the premises. In 1965, a group of Irish-American investors bought the hotel. Finally, in 2013 Red Carnation Hotels bought Ashford Castle and began serious renovations on the property. The iconic hotel reopened in April 2015 after a two-year renovation and restoration programme.
 
Food and Drink
 
Ashford Castle boasts a wide range of creative Irish cuisine using seasonal ingredients from the West of Ireland The luxurious hotel offers four dining rooms including the palatial George V Dining Room for fine dining and a casual bistro. Afternoon tea served in the sophisticated Connaught Room. A fruitful selection of fine wine from around the world is also available for guests to enjoy.
