Good news for jobseekers based in the Northwest. Phibro Animal Health Corporation has announced plans to establish a biotech facility in Sligo. This new plant will be based in the IDA Ireland Finisklin Business Park, and create up to 150 jobs over 5 years.
Phibro manufactures and markets animal health and nutrition products for poultry, swine, cattle, dairy and aquaculture customers. Last year, the company had $764 million in sales in over 65 countries. Employing 1,400 people globally, Phibro is a publicly traded company headquartered in Teaneck, New Jersey, United States. This Sligo plant is the company’s first biologicals manufacturing location in Europe.
The new manufacturing facility will initially focus on producing Phibro’s line of vaccines for the treatment of a range of poultry diseases. However, there are future plans to expand production to include vaccines for livestock and aquaculture.
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed T.D, commented on Ireland’s Life Sciences capability in the North West. This project builds on a series of new IDA projects announced for Sligo and elsewhere in the region: ‘The Government is tirelessly working to achieve job creation in locations which are away from the main cities, and this new biotech facility in Sligo is testament that the policy is working.’
Jack Bendheim, Phibro’s Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, ‘The creation of Phibro Ireland marks an important milestone in our development as a leading global player in the animal health biological market.’

It’s target is women who have taken a break from their engineering careers and now wish to return. At the Research & Development Department in Medtronic Parkmore Galway, engineers are involved in developing cutting edge medical products to improve healthcare globally.

Financial services firm FinTrU has announced the creation of over 600 jobs in the next five years. This £38m expansion by FinTrU will establish a new operation in Derry with 305 new jobs and create a further 300 roles in Belfast.
Invest Northern Ireland’s Chief Executive, Alastair Hamilton stated: 'We are delighted to have played such a significant role in the company’s rapid growth to date. The new jobs to be recruited over the next five years will generate over £15million in additional annual salaries for the local economy.' Invest NI has offered £3.2million support, while the Department for the Economy has offered £2.4million through its Assured Skills Programme.
FinTrU provides regulatory resourcing services. These include legal, risk, compliance, KYC, operations and consultancy, to Investment Banks and other financial institutions. It established a Belfast centre of excellence in 2014, with initial plans to recruit 80 and has since grown successfully to now employing over 240 staff.
