About BCS Recruitment
BCS are the sponsors and organisers of the Virtual Recruitment Expo. Since 2012, they have run highly successful careers events in Cork, Dublin, and Galway twice a year. Since the Covid-19 pandemic has caused physical events to take a time-out, BCS have implemented a virtual platform that will allow recruiters and candidates meet online.
On the day, BCS Recruitment team can offer guidance to jobseekers on a variety of topics such as interview techniques and professional growth. Their jobseeker services are there to avail of for anybody on the lookout for employment.
“Many jobseekers are unsure how to sell themselves to employers. Even if they have all the necessary skills and experience, they can have trouble communicating that. Some candidates underestimate the importance of soft skills, and fail to highlight these,” says Bronagh Cotter of BCS.
Successful Recruitment Benefits Companies and Candidates
Successful recruitment should create a mutually beneficial relationship between candidates and companies, asserts Bronagh.
“We aim to find the best fit for both employees and employers. Companies want more than just an employee with skills and experience. They want staff who fit into their company’s culture. It is much the same for jobseekers, particularly if they have in-demand skills. Of course, salary is a consideration, but it is not the only one. Depending on their circumstances, their priority could be the potential for promotion, the chance to upskill, travel opportunities or work-life balance,” she explains.
“Therefore, we match a candidate’s goals and expectations with the right company. It is our firm belief that it is not a job well done unless both the candidate and company benefit. We spend so much of our lives are at work. That means that finding the right fit is crucial.”

The Galway start up, CitySwift will be hiring for roles in sales and marketing, software and data science over the next two years.
CitySwift, the transport data company are expanding their footprint in Galway, which means they are doubling their headcount.
The 50 new roles announced will be created over the next two years and will be in the areas of sales and marketing and software and data science. The company also plans to move to a larger headquarters in Galway.
CitySwift has developed a cloud-native, data-drive technology platform to optimise urban bus networks. Its data engine has been rolled out in the UK to enhance the customer experience and operations of public transport and the company’s clients include companies such as National Express and Go Ahead.
The company was founded by former CitiBank analyst, Brian O'Rourke and bus industry veteran Alan Farrelly in 2016.
Huge Opportunities in CitySwift
There are massive opportunities in the start-up. Earlier this year, they announced that they had raised an additional €2m in funding, having already raised €1.5 m in 2019 under their former name CitySwifter.
As part of the most recent funding round, they also rolled out When2Travel, an AI-based tool that generates dynamic predictions of bus loadings in a means to show passengers how busy their bus is likely to be.
The new jobs have been created as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a rise in demand for the company’s technology from bus operators.
Brian O’Rourke, Co-Founder of CitySwift said that while Britain remains the company’s main market, there are “massive opportunities” opening up globally.
He says, “We’ve made good progress in pilot programmes we’re involved in across Europe and there are conversations happening that could see us starting up in the US shortly,” he said. “We also hope to be going live with various operators in Ireland sometime in 2020, which is something we’re very excited about.”
