Milestones
Among most important company milestones, OHL is the first Spanish company to undertake the construction of a section of high-speed railway abroad, specifically in Turkey. It has also completed the first construction project awarded to a Spanish company in the USA, extending the Miami metro to the city’s international airport. In addition, it also participated in the Saudi-Spanish consortium Al Shoula. This is the largest contract achieved by the Spanish industry abroad and is to construct the Haramain High-Speed Rail project in Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, the group executed projects to modernize the railway corridors in the Czech Republic.
The company is also a pioneer in healthcare construction. Since 1930, it has constructed more than 150 new hospitals. In addition, OHL has undertaken 200 hospital renovation and expansion projects. Recently, OHL was awarded the construction of the National Forensic Mental Health Hospital in the north of Dublin.

The project includes a high security forensic healthcare campus for mental care patients, with 170 beds distributed in 10 buildings for a total gross area of 25.350 m2 with in a total campus extension of 10 Ha.
OHL´s presence in Ireland started 9 years ago, being the preferred bidder appointment for the PPP Metro North Dublin a project estimated over 1,000m Euros, however the Authority decided to cancel the project due to the recession affecting the construction industry in 2008.
With the current improvement of the economy, Ireland has become a strategic country for OHL to become a “home market”. The company has a permanent management team in the country and is currently participating on several tender processes including heavy civil and building projects from healthcare, institutional, educational and residential, and is expected to receive imminent confirmation of appointments to contribute with the local growth.
